I FIND A YOGA TEACHER
and begin to heal
#203
Myself with Laurie Thompson, my wonderful yoga teacher
I have found a yoga teacher, found her at the poetry readings, and have begun classes. Laurie is from Flint, Michigan, the same place Michael Moore comes from. She is an artist, photographer, and a prominent yoga teacher in town.
I had this truly remarkable experience on my first class. I just flooded with tears but in a good way, like I was coming back into my own spirit. I have been lost and have not known who I am since Joe died, just felt like a stranger to myself.
Joe was dead four months on the 25th. On the 26th for the first time I didn´t cry all day or night. It is a milestone. I feel stronger, and have a little more optimistic view of my future. I have heard of some others´misfortunes and I know I have been a lucky and healthy person, never feel that more strongly than in my yoga class. so I think after one month here, I have taken my first baby step towards real recovery.
Twice this week teachers have boycotted grocery stores and I had to do without. Two days ago the streets began to fill with the protesting teachers. Streets and allies are strung with blue tarps and thousands upon thousands of teachers are sleeping in the streets. Hundreds of pup tents are under the tarps, sleeping bags on the bare stones of the street or some lucky ones with unfolded cardboard boxes underneath them for comfort. They have been here for days now. What a struggle.
Love to all and your thoughts and prayers are truly helping me heal, I can feel it now for the first time.
