LA MUERTE Y YO

Mi novio José decía
“No preocupes de nada,
te preocupas tanto mucho.
?Que es lo peor se pasaría?”

Pues, te lo digo, porque
lo peor me ha occurido a mi.

Soy  la mujer quien he enfrento La Muerte;
Soy la mujer quien ha perdido todo.
La Muerte estuvo al alcance de mi.
Sin embargo, se me pasó, pero
no sin se quitandose todo que
lo cualera mas preciso a mi.

Pasó asi:
Durante una noche fria, en Enero,
mintras en mi cama, junto de
mi novio enfermo, La Muerte llego.
Lo tuvo no cara. Muerte vino como
torbollinos pequeños, baillando
sobre el techo.
La Muerte llego no en sueño.

Con mis ogos abiertos anchos
completamente despierto
vi los expiritus, tantos muchos
por las docenas, girando y chupando.

Etonces ellos dieron la vuelta, horizontal
y se conviertirán se a lombrizas grandes
boquiabiertas, moviendo hacia José,
flotando encima de el. Cubrí su cuerpo.
Etonces ellos volvieron para mi.

Ellos vinieron corriendo a mis ojos
y tratando me morder.

DEATH AND ME

My boyfriend Joe, used to say
“Don’t worry about anything,
you worry too much.
What is the worst thing that can happen?
Well, I tell you, the worst has happened to me.

I am the woman who has congronted Death;
I am the woman who  has lost everything.
Death  reached out for mi;
however, he passed me by, but
not without consequences, not
without taking
what was most precious to me.

It happened like this:
During a cold night in January
while I lay in my bed
next to my ill boyfriend,
Death arrived.
She had no face. Death came like
whirlwinds, dancing
upon the ceiling.
Death did not come in a dream.

With my eyes wide open
completely conscious
I saw spirits, many spirits,
by the dozens, spinning and gulping.

They repositioned horizontally
and converted into large worms
with mouths wide open,
moving towards Joe,
floating over me.
I covered Joe’s  body
and then they came after me.

The worms begin to run toward my eyes
trying to bite me. But
I stared them down defiantly
without blinking. So it happened
on this night
Death had no power over me.

But I was not able to keep my eyes open all night;
I was tired, but then I realized
I could fight Death with light.
I turned on the bathroom light
and Death fled.

Two days later Joe died, when
I was out of the house; at the end of the day,
Death won - In the dark,
without a fight.
The worst happened.
