#190 / 2011 Winter: Santa Fe

MY POEM ABOUT GRIEF
#190

My empty room in Santa Fe

Unknown quote:
Shoulder it long enough and any weight you carry
becomes the length and breadth of what you are.

Grief is work, it has weight.
It is a burden to bear
that can become all consuming.
Avoid letting your grief become
the substance of who you are.

Without acknowledging
and abiding with  your grief,
it will only grow heavier
until you are immobilized.

Pick grief up, like a small child
and hold it close to your heart.
Abide with your grief,
nurture it and it will follow
a natural course
and grow independent of you.
