#154 / 2010 Winter: Panama City

OUT OF THE HOSPITAL
#154

I report online for the 23rd:

Today Joe had two biopsies, one on his liver and one on his pancreas. He has his blood filter in  his leg to stop clots and the blood thinner medication is on the way. The insurance in New Mexico is coordinating with the Sacred Heart Hospital but things are getting complicated. Like we cant just walk out of here with Joe's Lovenox treatment. That is the blood thinner in syringes. He needs two a day.

So we can go for now. We will go to wZ's house and spend the Thanksgiving weekend. We will pick up all the medicines Joe needs to travel back to Las Cruces and we will begin that slow ride sometime next week. We will have enough blood thinner for a month.

Apparently we will hook up with more medical assistance in Las Cruces. I plan to fo the Human Health Services and see if I can get Joe situated in some kind of public housing while he is undergoing whatever treatment NM will provide.

I fear we have lost our opportunity for the trip to Mexico, can't figure out how all this can get coordinated by January 7, but we do stay optimistic.

The doctors say it was good actually that Joe had the vein problem come up because otherwise we wouldn't have found out about his liver and pancreas problems. It is overwhelming if I look at the whole picture, but again we take it one day at a time.

For now we will celebrate Thanksgiving, enjoy the beach, and wait to hear more of the test results. I won't be posting daily reports anymore as the immediate crisis is over.

All your prayers, calls and good wishes have been so uplfting, humbling. We are grateful.

Love to all of you

Pamela
