#183 / 2011 Winter: Santa Fe

MARCH 11
#183

Joe and I have been house sitting for my publisher and editor Steve Klinger for over five years now so I agree to continue house sitting for them. Steve and his partner Kathy Meyer are moving to Santa Fe. The house is not furnished yet so I was in a beautiful little zen house with no internet, TV or phone. All I did was shop and cry.

Steve and Kathy came up with a load of furniture and I moved out of their way to house sit for an important friend of Joe's. Now I am in a mansion in Santa Fe on the hills going to the ski basin in Santa Fe. I am staying in the library.

Joe and I stayed here downstairs in the guest room, but I can't even go down those stairs. Too many happy memories down there. So I sleep on a couch in the library. Right now I don't even want to sleep in a full bed; don't want to be conscious of the empty space beside me. Even in Albuquerque, after Joe died on the futon we were sleeping on, I folded it back into a couch and slept like that. Too much empty space.

So, I am staying out on the porch watching unbelievable sunsets, I guess we should call them millionaire's sunsets. They have fifty dollar bottles of Cointreau. This is living!

But I do now have a complete new wardrobe of widow weeds, about two sizes larger than I want but I can live with it.

Love, love
Pamela
