#137 / 2010 Spring: Winslow

A FINAL REPORT FOR A WHILE
#137

Beatlick Joe and I spent one final night on the road, Winslow, Arizona, in a WalMart parking lot before we hit Albuquerque. We were full of the visions of natural wonder from the Grand Canyon to the Red Rocks of Sedona.

It was getting near dusk as we pulled in and I found a great spot at the far corner of the parking lot looking back towards a wide sweep of sky. At a thrift store Joe had picked up a tape of Bach piano concertos.

The sky was so beautiful, above the horizon was an unbroken line of pink and gray clouds. It was so spectacular to us that we opened up all the curtains in the back of the van so as to have a complete view. We slept with our heads looking towards the back window to watch the evening descend.

The Bach tape would only play in an old cassette player that we have. We only had headphones which could be separated so that I could listen out of one ear bud and Joe could listen from the other. The back windows seemed to be an enormous big screen television and Bach afforded us stereophonic sound.

We cranked up the music, nestled down in the covers, and that is how we completed our journey west to the Grand Canyon. Happy and content in our little van parked in a WalMart parking lot in Winslow, Arizona.

 Happy Trails
Beatlick Pamela
