#90 / 2009 Tour 4 Spring: San Diego - "Mind Power"

"MIND POWER" BY BEATLICK JOE SPEER
#90

People can be addicted to negative attitudes just like substance abuse.  A person can be enslaved to ideas as well as drugs.  For example, if a person thinks it is impossible to lose weight or learn a language, then no progress will occur.  If a person retains a sad outlook on life, they will never climb out of the sinkhole of depression.

I believe a person can create a bright future for themselves.  We must develop new mental presets, imagine a healthy relationship or a life as expert on Irish literature, or a prizewinning jeweler, and slowly work toward that goal.  Continued effort is important.  We can imagine anything, but if we don't exert our energy to make it happen - then zero results.

We currently camp in many beautiful, remote and free locations. The reason we are able to accomplish this is because I imagined it and then spent years of research, studying maps, books, and asking questions of people in the know.  First comes the idea then application of concerted energy flow to fulfill the dream. I see the world as unlimited possibilities.  Our mental barriers are the main obstacle to achievement.

I advocate mind power because it proves to be efficacious.  A couple recent examples:  We are traveling and living in a 77 VW camper.  Large urban areas can pose a problem to overnight parking or extended stays.  We have a friend not heard from in over ten years.  The last we knew she lived in San Diego, CA.

I fantasized contacting her, and finding her agreeable to a visit from wandering writers on a lark.  I saw us parked in her private driveway with an electric extension cord to power our DVD player and boom box. I envisioned a week stopover.  We called her and she gave us directions to her home in North Park (a neighborhood in San Diego).  Everything I imagined came true.  She enabled us to enjoy a low budget and safe layover in her beautiful city by the ocean.

While in San Diego we rode the public bus to visit the Gas Lamp District, the Presidio and other tourist destinations. While sitting at the back of the bus and waiting for passengers to board I noticed an attractive woman in a white dress and boots on the other side of the intersection.

There was a vacant seat against the wall facing the aisle.  I thought; she needs to climb on the bus and occupy that seat.  Fat chance?  I continued to watch and focus energy on her as she crossed the street, paid her fare for the ride and sat exactly where I had positioned her for maximum viewing.  Perhaps a coincidence but I experience many examples of mind power which enhance and expand my personal life.  I think mental acuteness is a resource we can develop.
